Kenny Lang

Singer-songwriter and recording artist from Port Austin, MI, whose songs brilliantly illustrate stories about life, love, happiness, and struggle.

Kenny’s music can be heard drifting across the state any day of the week.  Alongside dogs, fishing, and family, Kenny’s first true love is music, and his special gift for crafting true-life stories into song is reminiscent of the greats like Cash, Kristofferson, Haggard, and Jennings.

Kenny is a part of the team at the Michigan War Dog Memorial and encourages you to visit MWDM.org and check it out.

A Man, a Voice, and a Guitar

by Dennis Hafeli

One of my personal favorites, a man for whom I have the utmost respect, is singer-songwriter Kenny Lang. Since moving to Port Austin with his wife Che, an accomplished cellist and nurse practitioner, Kenny has become a beloved figure in our community—not only for his music but for the heart and humility behind it.

Born in Detroit and raised in Dearborn, Kenny’s love for music started early—singing in church choirs and mastering guitar, bass, and mandolin by age 13. From rock bands in high school to country touring acts like Nightbird, and later as a sound engineer, Kenny’s life has been defined by music.

Over time, he turned toward songwriting, aiming not for quantity but for truth. He calls his music “divinely inspired”—songs must come from the heart, be personal, and feel right. If they don’t, he sets them aside until they do.

His ballad “Four Legged Hero,” inspired by the War Dog Memorial in South Lyon, stands out as a testament to his emotional range. It's a song that brings him to tears nearly every time he performs it.

Kenny also found his calling performing for seniors in independent and assisted living communities across Michigan. At one point, he played over 400 shows a year. Whether for two people or two hundred, Kenny brings the same warmth, sincerity, and authenticity to every performance.

He is, quite simply, a man with a voice, a guitar, and a gift for making music that connects.
